slip-stream from near Sol-system to near the Roia binary system in orbit around a black hole

Calculation of star alignment is incorrect, and the ship begins breaking up in the gravity well of the stars. Ship makes it through the stars and toward the planet and moons. Abandon ship called for.

Escape pods make it to planet, a few get stuck on moons ("what have we got for atmosphere?" "almost good enough, and we've got equipment to fix it"), not everyone survives.

Live animals on board to provide for milk, eggs, cheese, and some fresh meat. Many crew also have pets.

main hull crashes into ocean, a few crew stuck on board try to save the hull from flooding, and then begin life on the bottom of the sea. deep sea pressures to much to attempt escape.

Captain checks internal sensors to make sure everyone is off, and then leaves ship himself. Turns out a few are left in a section the sensors couldn't pick up.

Call for crew sent out to the fleet, for volunteers for the dangerous journey. Many ships in the fleet lose several crew.

Human with dwarfism, while standing at attention in the "main hall" notices a female vulcan also with dwarfism who is part of the crew. They fall in love, manage to make the same landing party, and have twins to start, also with dwarfism. 4 years later they have another child with dwarfism, and so on. As the children marry non-dwarfs, some of the third generation are and some are not; same with fourth and fifth. Sixth generation begins becoming its own race of half-sized human-vulcan mix.

Scanner range:

when nearing the system, subspace scanners are ineffective.

can't we boost the range of the scanner? - yes, but it will take more time to scan. Scanners are great, but they're still limited to the speed of light for scanning distances and time. Start scanning too far and the scan is going to take minutes or hours or more to get results.

midflight battle with Orions. Orions board ship; are defeated and taken prisoner.

Some crew object to keeping them alive. "we, or our descendents will regret this decision."

Cpt: "I know, but its the right thing to do, maybe we can work out a peace before we have descendents."

"Captain, scanners are picking up an Orion ship."

"Have they spotted us?"

"I don't think so."

"Mask our signatures and get us the hell out of here."

Lt runs some settings on a consul, "this action is going to run down some of our energy reserves captain. And if we they do detect us, and follow us, that ship is faster than we are at warp, we can't afford to waste energy on a battle."

"If they follow us, then lets just hope we can negotiate then."

Vulcan boy about to begin his first pon farr. No other vulcan females of similar age, uses holodeck

nano-probe which can infiltrate the enemies exhaust, and then into ventilation and environmental controls. goes into the waste gas ventilation points. Used to put a sleep gas into enemies air. Or it can release fluorine gas, burning the enemy ships.

"run the phasers hot!" (long duration phaser fire)

"warp engines used to be so huge, early space travelers never would have imagined we'd get shuttle crafts with high warp capability, but here we are, warp 9 shuttles. I could make a warp capable model of a shuttle craft, or a pencil, with this engine!"

First officer has bias against vulcans. Doesn't think they truly act with logic. feels they are too conservative and arrogant, and almost bully-like. "Where is the logic in insulting someone? in trying to make some feel bad? you actively try to inflict negative emotions on others."

Outer hull:

censors on hatches to notify of intruders

oxygen ports on hull in case someone's suit leaks or runs low for whatever reason

"The planet seems to have been irradiated by nuclear war"

"Will it be harmful to us?"

"No, levels are low enough that it won't affect us, but if we're stuck here, our decedents, a few thousand years from now, will be a bit different than us."
