Along the journey, leaving Federation territory, upwardly, a new empire is discovered, but they know of the Federation that has existed below them, they are not friendly towards the Federation. They refuse to allow passage, but Captain Clevel decides to push through. The ensuing battle causes great damage to the ship, one of the reasons later they must abandon ship.
